My name is Wyatt Scott and I want to be your next Member of Parliament.

I was born August 26, 1977 in Red Deer, Alberta to Ray and Donna Scott. My mother Donna devoted her life to early childhood education, focussing on special needs children.  My father Raymond was a health care professional working in Prince George, Inuvik, Vanderhoof, Hope, and a few other communities as well. We lived all over the province and country. My father holds two masters degrees and still works as a health care consultant worldwide.

In my 25-plus years of employment I have worked too many jobs to list. I hold a journeyman Cooking Certificate which I achieved through the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology’s three year apprenticeship program. I have worked in many different restaurants, hotels, and world class resorts. I also hold a Class One Operators License which I achieved when I was 18 years old, after taking an intensive 6 week course. I used my Class One license to work various jobs in the Alberta oil field and went on to work all over North America in different oil refineries. I currently reside and operate my own business in Mission with my wife and son. We believe that small businesses are a driving force in any community. We currently employ five people from the community and will be expanding our business in the new year to add three more positions in manufacturing.

I currently sit as a member of the board for the Mission Optimist Club. The board is active in raising funds for various youth activities, scholarships, and other youth-focussed events in our community. Volunteerism has always been important to me; taking into account all the community activities that I have been involved in, I have personally raised over $100,000 for various charities.

I attended the University of the Fraser Valley for three years. During my time at the university, I concentrated my studies on political science with an international relations focus. I also studied philosophy, psychology, communications, and agriculture. I ran for the Student Union Society at UFV and won my seat as the Vice President Social. It was an amazing experience working with people of all different ages, ethnicities and abilities. While I was at the university I worked every day to enhance the student community with such events as Student Society Community Cook Nights and Sunday Baker House Breakfasts. I was also very active in creating and organizing new groups, including the American Sign Language Club, which taught sign language to any interested student, (I am fluent in ASL and also French) the Psychology Students Association, and the Political Science Students Association. I sat on the executive committee for all of these associations.  I have also worked for the BC NDP and I have been a part of many different political campaigns.

When I’m not working or volunteering, my leisure time is mostly spent here within our riding. Fishing at Harrison Lake, hiking on our municipal forestry trails, and hunting in our forests are all things I personally enjoy and want to preserve for the future, when I can teach my son to respect and enjoy our wilderness too. I also enjoy skiing at Manning Park and Hemlock Resort. This riding has a wealth of artists from all backgrounds; I especially enjoy local visual arts shows and displays. I also have a passion for flying, whenever possible I get up in the air for some awesome reflection time.

I feel that my awareness of the diversity within Canada’s social and economic make up, and my wide range of work and life experience, position me to be an excellent representative of your opinions in Ottawa. Give me your support, and I will work harder for you than any MP ever has before.
