Royals Transformation

From the Queen Mother to Meghan Markle, royals have undergone an incredible transformation over the years. Take a look at some of the royals who look almost different than what they look now.

The Queen Mother

Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon was born in 1900. She survived two world wars, a serious house fire at Glamis Castle, for which she was named “a veritable heroine” due to “the salvage work she performed within the fire zone.” She became the Queen Mother after her husband passed away, and her daughter, Elizabeth II became the Queen. She lived to be 101 years old. “As so often had occurred during her life,” her biography The Queen Mother: The Untold Story of Elizabeth Bowes Lyon, Who Became Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother states, “the occasion was almost perfectly staged. Her death was peaceful and painless.”

Queen Elizabeth II

She was born in 1926. Even though everyone thought she would become the queen, as everyone expected a male heir in their family, the unfortunate death of her father led her to the throne when she was just 25 years old. Nowadays, her colorful fashion choices are what distinguishes her from the rest of the royal family.

Prince Charles

“Poor little chap, two-and-a-half hours after being born, he was being looked at by outsiders — but with great affection and good will,” Major Thomas Harvey, Queen Elizabeth‘s private secretary, is quoted as saying about newborn Prince Charles in the biography Prince Charles: The Passions and Paradoxes of an Improbable Life. Charles was five years old when his mother became the queen. Winston Churchill once said about the young Charles, “He is young to think so much.” After his later years of a scandalous affair and the divorce from Princess Diana, his public image has now been restored. He is the next in line for the throne, as Queen Elizabeth named him as her successor.

Princess Anne

She was born in 1950, and she is the second child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip. As stated by her biography, the princess won the individual European championship in 1971. Her love for horseback riding made her fall in love with her first husband, commoner and fellow equestrian enthusiast, Captain Mark Phillips. They divorced after 19 years, and Anne is now married to a former aide to her mom, Commander Timothy Laurence.

Prince Andrew

The third child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip, Andrew had quite a scandalous marriage, which British tabloids could wait to drag his name through the mud. He was married to Sarah Ferguson, and after 10 years of drama-filled marriage, the two divorced.

Prince Edward

The youngest child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip. His biography described the prince as a “bookish child” and an introvert who liked to “spend time alone.” By 1993, he had formed his own television production company. In 2002, he stepped down from his company in order to focus on his royal duties.

Prince William

“William’s arrival in the world could not have come at a better moment,” states Prince William: The Man Who Will Be King. “Britain was in a triumphant mood; the Falklands War … was over.” William grew up beautifully, and 56 percent of Britain’s population think he would be a great king one day.

Prince Harry

William was a very quiet boy, who handled the death of his mother, Princess Diana, quite well. On the other hand, his younger brother, Prince Harry had a different lifestyle while growing up. “Ever since he lost his mother when he was just twelve years old, Harry has had a place in our hearts,” royal expert Katie Nicholl explained in Harry: Life, Loss, and Love. “It is why he has always been forgiven for those well-documented falls from grace.” His past partying days are behind him now, and he is happily married and expecting his first child.

Meghan Markle

Rachel Meghan Markle is three years older than Prince Harry. The daughter of Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland was a successful Hollywood actress, best known for her role in Suits, before marrying Prince Harry and becoming a part of the royal family. Regarding her childhood as a child of a white man and an African American mother in California, she overheard someone calling her mother ‘’the ‘N’ word.’’ Meghan recalled, “My skin rushed with heat as I looked to my mom. Her eyes welling with hateful tears, I could only breathe out a whisper of words, so hushed they were barely audible: ‘It’s OK, Mommy.'”
